6/7 new songs |
Last Saturday Hothouse Flowers played a low key gig in the Tivoli, Dublin. In fact it was so low key that it was thanks only to this mailing list (and David, I think) that I heard about the show.
It was in aid of Legalaid and Lir, or something, - any way Hothouse Flowers topped the bill and followed Juliet Turner, Lir and Picture House. To say that it was a storming set would be an understatement!! They came on at about 1am and played for just over an hour. The first half of the set was all new songs. Each one was brilliant - (it appears that the creative juices are really flowing!!)
The second half of the set was more familiar and closed the show in style. Liam was in top charismatic form and singing as only he can, while Peter and Fiachna's nifty guitarwork complemented each other well. They were joined by Rob Malone on bass and Wayne Sheehy on drums.
They closed with an awesome version of 'i can see clearly now' - opening with the chords to 'Knocking on Heavens Door' before drifting into Fatboy Slim's 'Praise you' before the end.
After riotous calls for an encore, they returned with members of Lir for a tongue-in-cheek version of 'I fought the Law' and 'Roll Baby Roll'.
I left inebriated and uplifted!! - (we had after all just thrashed Scotland as well!); although it was a shame there was no sign of the live cd on sale. Anyway if the new songs are anything to go by we have a great album to look forward to.
Vibes,
Zac
