In a shock piece of news, Graeme "Shirley" Strachan has been killed in a helicopter
crash in Queensland. He was 49. Shirl made his name charismatically strutting
around in front of legendary Australian rock band Skyhooks. As a child of
the 80s, my first memory of Shirl was through the kids TV show "Shirl's
Neighbourhood" which he hosted. Only later did I make the connection with
classic songs like "Living in the 70's" and "Horror Movie". Most recently
he has been working as a presenter on Channel 9's lifestyle program "Our House".

I only ever saw Shirl on the Our House show, what with me being a pom living in England. But he seemed such a likable sort of bloke that was quite moved to hear of his death from an Ozzy mate.
To think that Livermore pillock is still up and running - who said God does not have a sense of humour?
Shirl was a great guy, I was in shock when I first heard the news. Skyhooks is my favorite band and I am happy I got to see them when they played at the Alex. all those years ago. I still expect Shirl to come on TV and say something silly to make you laugh. What a great loss. I will never forget your great voice and your cheeky smile. Miss ya. Linda.
shirl i miss ya, its been 2 years, and i wish i could just turn on the tv or see you at the local singing your heart out. i know there are others out there who feel the same. please write your comments down and let other skyhooks fans know your thoughts.
i love you shirl, wish you were here,
all my love
lennie
shirl just a short one miss you heaps. you will allways remain in my hart.and flying is still cool i still remember the old day's it was fun hay buddy. untill we catch up.paul andson jayden..
I'm so d--n sorry to just now learn of Shirley's death. He taught me to 'speak' Australian on one of his early trips to NYC. He was so charming, even my suspicious mother liked him. I do regret that I no longer have the hi-fi album he gave me then.
He is a good memory, and won't fade.
I cannot believe it has been 5 years since Shirl's death. I still remember when I first heard the news, I was absolutely devastated. I was a big fan of the Skyhooks; my kids grew up with 'Shirl's Neighbourhood' and I used to love his cheeky antics on 'Hey Hey' and 'Our House'.
Miss you Shirl.
